Stop by Stop Blackpool Tramway: North Station

And we end the Blackpool Tramway edition of “Stop by Stop” once again by featuring the latest terminus at North Station.

Last time out we were at Talbot Square and once our tram departs from there we continue up Talbot Road without much to talk about with there being no crossovers on the way. There are various junctions with roads and we watch out for badly parked vehicles which may just impede our way up towards the terminus. At the junction with Topping Street we then go slightly to the left as we enter the compound which leads to the terminus. Currently the final approach has a bit of unfinished look with the tram lines surrounded by just empty ground and temporary fencing. We also have the new Holiday Inn to the right.

There is a scissors crossover to allow trams to access either platform in either direction and just after that we come to the only island platform on the Blackpool Tramway. There are no set platforms here with trams to either Starr Gate or Fleetwood Ferry going from either side of the platform. The platform has a small shelter, lighting and passenger information panels. There is also an unused digital display. There are buffers here – the only ones on the tramway – as well as more temporary fencing. Further on beyond the platforms there is a subway which leads to the approach to Blackpool North Railway Station.

A general view of the terminus with 016 departing from the right hand track with a service to Starr Gate. 011 is on the other side of the platform and will head off to Fleetwood Ferry in a few moments. This was a wet 30th September.

We’re now out at the other end of the stop and see 017 departing on 29th September. Its just left from the right hand track and will use the crossover to access the correct track for its trip down Talbot Road. The temporary fencing and unfinished surrounds are seen to both sides of the tram. (Both Photographs by Gareth Prior)
