West Midlands Metro are the latest organisation to confirm their nominations for the forthcoming Global Light Rail Awards. They’re up for awards in five categories – and this includes the prestigious UK Operator of the Year.
As well as UK Operator of the Year they are also being recognised for the enhanced service frequency and reliability they have introduced through a series of infrastructure projects with a nomination for Most Improved System of the Year.
The planning involved during the necessary suspension of services between Wednesbury and Edgbaston to deliver the strategic infrastructure projects has also seen a nomination for Project of the Year.
And individual members of the Metro team will also be on the shortlist. Carl Brazier – Tram Fleet Engineer – is up for Employee of the Year and Conor Moon – Infrastructure Project Engineer – is nominated in the Rising Stars category.
Sophie Allison, West Midlands Metro Managing Director, said: “As work on the expansion of the network reached a number of significant milestones, the team pulled out all the stops to minimise disruption to customers and keep the region moving while carrying out essential upgrades that have brought immediate benefits. After overcoming numerous challenges over the past 12 months, we’re delighted these efforts have been recognised by colleagues from across the wider light rail sector, and to be shortlisted in so many award categories is a major accomplishment in itself.
