In Pictures: An update from Supertram’s rail replacement work

We take another trip to Sheffield as we view the latest progress on the rail replacement works taking place on the Supertram system. The final 2024 phase of work is taking place along Middlewood Road with old rails being removed and new rails put in their place to allow for the continued safe and reliable operation of the network. In this update we take a look at the work at either end of the August Bank Holiday weekend. Photos from Stuart Cooke.

We start this review on 24th August and are at the junction with Keyworth Road. This is seeing the worksite continue to move towards the city centre. Here the new rails await their installation.

A closer look into the worksite.

Looking down the line where works are underway to prepare the new track for installation.

By 27th August and the work had moved on to the final worksite. This is onwards from Keyworth Road to Dixon Road (work is meant to finish this coming weekend). In this photo we see more track being readied for installation.

And looking in the other direction the new track is put into place. (All Photographs by Stuart Cooke)
