Edinburgh Trams have reminded passengers on the network that throughout the Edinburgh Festival period bikes will not be able to be carried on board because of the increased number of passengers using the trams.
Usually, up to two bikes can be carried on trams (subject to the discretion of the on-board Ticketing Services Assistant) but as part of the Conditions of Carriage restrictions apply during the Festival period (as well as at peak periods the rest of the year).
Sarah Singh, Edinburgh Trams’ Head of Service Delivery, said: “To ensure the safety and comfort of our customers during one of the busiest times of the year, we want to ask both local residents and tourists not to try to board the trams with a bicycle. We also ask customers to treat our colleagues with respect when enforcing the rules, which are for the safety and wellbeing of everyone on board the tram. While there may be available space at their time of boarding, it is likely the tram will get busier further along the route, which is why this restriction is in place.”
Any passengers who usually take their bikes onboard are being asked to instead make use of cycle parking facilities across the network, including Ingliston Park & Ride, Edinburgh Park Station, the city centre, Leith and Ocean Terminal.
