Manchester Metrolink Then & Now: Edge Lane

Moving across from the Oldham and Rochdale line to the Ashton-under-Lyne line today for the next edition of “Manchester Metrolink Then & Now”.

We look eastwards for this pair of photos and we’re on Ashton New Road at the junction with Manor Road which is where you will now find the Edge Lane tramstop.

The then photo this time is from 18th February 2010 and whilst there are no obvious signs of work underway there is signage up to let motorists know they will be coming and apologising for any inconvenience.

Things have changed by the time of the second photo as we now have a fully functioning tramway in place with the island platform of Edge Lane in situ. The road layout has changed a bit in the vicinity as well with it another one where you need to know where to look to see it’s the same place. (Both Photographs by Keith Chadbourne)
