The successful launch of services to Newhaven has led to Edinburgh Trams being nominated for an award at the prestigious Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) awards. Members of the Edinburgh Trams Service Delivery department have received a nomination for the Team of the Year Award, with the winner to be announced at a ceremony in London on 13th June.
Having already played an important role throughout the Trams to Newhaven project, the expanded team stepped up its involvement in the months leading up to the opening of the extension which served key areas of the city such as Leith and Ocean Terminal.
George Lowder, Chief Executive of Transport for Edinburgh, said: “Thanks to the hard work and attention to detail of the Edinburgh Trams Service Delivery team, the Tram to Newhaven launch passed without a hitch. This marked another important milestone in the history of the tramway and the city it serves, and another major step towards Edinburgh’s ambitions to become a Net-Zero city. Residents and visitors are now benefiting from trams running up to every seven minutes, seven days a week, while the operator continues to forge even stronger links with local communities and businesses to ensure they make the most of the £207 million investment in the new line.”
Lea Harrison, Managing Director of Edinburgh Trams, added: “As well as providing an undoubted boost for the city, the work of the Service Delivery team will have a lasting impact on our organisation, and our approach to the launch will act as a template for other public transport operators when planning for future expansion.”
