We have time for just one further “Picture in Time” image from Manchester Metrolink in 1994.
This photo is taken at St Peters Square – a stop which bears very little resemblance to this today having been completely rebuilt and now featuring two island platforms to serve both of the city crossings. But in the summer of 1994 this was how it looked with the platforms just having the small hump and the rest requiring the T68s to deploy steps for their use.
We see 1025 “Christie Metro Challenger” pulling into the stop on the way to Altrincham as an identified sister car is working the other way to Piccadilly. At this time the stop was firmly named “St Peters Square” but at some point since it has gained an apostrophe and now carries the name “St Peter’s Square”.
1025 delivered 22nd March 1992, entered service 26th May 1992, withdrawn 16th January 2013 and sent for scrapping on 24th September 2014.
One I will always remember
