The RAIB have confirmed that they will be releasing a safety digest in the coming weeks after an incident on Manchester Metrolink which saw a passenger’s bag get trapped in the doors of a tram leading to them being dragged along the platform for a short distance.
The incident happened at around 1116 on 27th May 2022 at Shudehill tramstop. The passenger was dragged along for 13 metres before they fell onto the platform after their bag became trapped in a tram’s doors as it was leaving the stop. The passenger suffered injuries to their face and hand.
The tram driver was unaware of the presence of the passenger as the tram started to leave the stop.
The RAIB have already undertaken a preliminary examination into the incident and have decided that a full investigation is not required. They will instead be publishing a safety digest in the coming weeks.
