It’s a double helping of demolition images of Blackpool’s former Wilko’s store as we take a look at the progress made on raising the building to the ground with photos taken on 17th and 23rd October. Tony Armitage provides the images.
With the work on the demolition of the building having started at the beginning of September excellent progress seems to have been made with at least half of the building now have been removed. The timeline for the work on Phase Two of the Talbot Gateway project sees the demolition due to be completed by the end of the year before the next stage can commence which will include the construction of the tramway terminus and a new hotel.
One day this picture may be an entry into the “Trams &” series! But for now as a Blackpool Transport bus passes by on Talbot Road we see the scene on 17th October with the Wilko’s structure continuing to be demolished.
In this view we see the tram tracks leading to the site where the new terminus will be built.
Taken from Dickson Road looking at the building this view gives a good indication of how much of the old structure has now been removed.
Moving on to 23rd October and this time we are looking at the part of the building which is likely to be the last to be demolished. This is the section looking towards Sainsbury’s and Blackpool North Railway station.
Another look at the demolition showing the excellent progress continuing to be made.
The view of the entrance to the tram terminus as at 23rd October.
A final shot from 23rd October shows the close-up image which shows how much more of the building has been removed since image three of this article. (All Photographs by Tony Armitage)
