Going for a ride…

It is time once again for our weekly round-up of just when and where you can go for a ride on a heritage tram. This week sees the start of the Great North Steam Fair at Beamish whilst we come to the end of this batch of daily running in Blackpool (but don’t forget you can still enjoy rides there at weekends) and of course there are still lots of other places you can go for a ride…

Beamish: The Living Museum of the North

Current Status: Open daily from 1000 to 1700.

Next event: Great North Steam Fair – Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th April

Birkenhead Heritage Tramway

Current Status: Operates every Saturday and Sunday between 1300 and 1700. Also operates on May Day, Spring and August bank holidays and Wednesdays-Fridays during school holidays.

Timetable in operation: Trams depart Taylor Street every half hour between 1250 and 1620 returning from Woodside between 1305 and 1635 using 1 tram.

Blackpool Tramway

Current Status: Operates all weekends until Sunday 9th November plus school holidays and Bank Holidays.

Timetable in operation:

Until Sunday 12th April, Saturday 18th, Sunday 19th, Saturday 25th, Sunday 26th April, Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th May – Blue timetable (2 trams in service running between Pleasure Beach and North Pier up to every 20 minutes from 1000-1700)

Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd May – Green timetable (4 trams in service running between Pleasure Beach and Little Bispham every 20 minutes from 1000-1800)

Monday 4th May – Gold timetable (6+ trams in service running between Pleasure Beach and Little Bispham with additional limited stop tours to Fleetwood)

Crich Tramway Village

Current Status: Open daily until Sunday 1st November.

Douglas Horse Tramway

Current Status: Resumes operation Monday 11th May and then daily until Sunday 13th September

Timetable in operation: First tram departs Strathallan at 0900 and then every 20 minutes until 1720. Return journeys commence from the Sea Terminal at 0920 and then every 20 minutes until 1740.

East Anglia Transport Museum

Current Status: Open Sundays and Wednesdays plus selected school holidays.

Open: Sundays and Wednesdays until Sunday 24th May. Also open Monday 4th May and Saturday 16th May. Opening hours 1200 until 1630.

Next Special Event: Mid-May 40’s Weekend – Saturday 16th (1200-2100) & Sunday 17th May (1030-1630)

Great Orme Tramway

Current Status: Daily operation until end of October.

Monday 13th April to Friday 1st May & Tuesday 5th May to Friday 22nd May – Timetable B (6 departures each way between Derby Castle and Ramsey plus 1 each way between Laxey and Derby Castle)

Until Sunday 12th April, Saturday 2nd to Monday 4th May & Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th May – Blue Timetable (trams every 20 minutes from Seaton between 1000 and 1700 with return trips from Colyton between 1030 and 1730)

Snaefell Mountain Railway

Current Status: Daily operation.

Summerlee – The Museum of Scottish Industrial Life

Current Status: Open daily between 1000 and 1700.

Opening hours: 1000-1700. One tram is usually in service each day.

    Apparently there has been a collision at Seaton involving a car at the level crossing, thankfully nobody was hurt but the statement put out by the tramway suggests tram #9 has been badly damaged. Does anyone have photos?
