Cheltenham 21 made available by Council

After over 30 years stored behind closed doors Cheltenham 21 is being offered to interested parties with the Council admitting they have no plans for its restoration or display. The tram – which in the preservation era has called both Crich and Bournemouth home before returning home – is part of the collection at the Council owned Wilson Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum but its size makes it difficult for them to display it which has led to the decision to look at deaccessioning no. 21.

North Station tramstop celebrates its first birthday

Happy birthday to Blackpool’s North Station extension! Officially opening to the public on 12th June 2024 (following pre-opening specials in the run-up, including both Flexity2 trams and Balloon 700), over the past year more than a quarter of a million passenger journeys have made to and from the stop – and its popularity continues to increase with the travelling public.

In Pictures: Trams joined by buses at Beamish’s Festival of Transport

This is in effect an extended edition of “Trams &” as we head to Beamish to see a few shots of trams along with buses. These were all taken during the recent Festival of Transport (24th May to 1st June) which saw the return of trains from Rowley Station for first time since 2020, and included Beamish’s main contribution to the Railway 200 celebrations taking place this year. NET give warning over TikTok tram surfing trend

Following media reports showing youths “tram surfing” by clinging on to the rear of trams in Nottingham, bosses at Nottingham Express Transit have given a warning over the dangerous act to anyone who may be tempted to follow the trend which has become more popular thanks to a new trend on TikTok.

West of England will look at trams as part of future strategy

Earlier this month we saw the headline grabbing announcement from the UK government that the biggest ever package of funding to English regions for transport improvements would be given for the five years from 2027/8 (although some will be made available earlier to ensure projects can get going as soon as possible). At the time of that announcement the biggest projects set to benefit were to be in the north east, Manchester, West Midlands, and West and South Yorkshire; but they aren’t the only regions which will see extra money available.

Nexus appoint consultants for Metro extension to Washington as public engagement events announced

Following the announcement by Mayor of the North East, Kim McGuiness, that part of the major government funding for the region will go towards the construction of the first new Tyne and Wear Metro line for over 30 years, comes the news that not only have they appointed technical consultants to help develop the plans but also that public engagement events will be taking place from mid-June onwards.
