In Pictures: Testing and driver training underway to Millennium Point

The start of West Midlands Metro services to Millennium Point can’t be too far away now with the start of testing and driver training on the first phase of the Birmingham Eastside extension now underway.

When trams returned in service to Wolverhampton St George’s on Monday 17th November it was announced at the same time that for some services running towards Edgbaston Village passengers would be asked to alight at Bull Street to allow drivers to head onto the extension via the delta junction in Corporation Street. And that is exactly what has been happening as preparations for the opening of the line really start to ramp up.

The first phase of the Birmingham Eastside extension will see two steps added to the West Midlands Metro network. As well as the (temporary) terminus at Millennium Point (outside the Clayton Hotel) there will also be a stop at Albert Street.

Its not been announced exactly when the line will open to the public, or indeed what service will be running when it does. Watch this space for more details!
