Still Standing! Old overhead tram pole, Edinburgh

In this edition of “Still Standing” we are again to heading to Edinburgh, this time the feature of the article is an old tram overhead pole.

We’ve seen plenty of overhead rosettes (where the overhead wires were directly connected to buildings) in Edinburgh during this series but there were also locations where the traditional overhead poles could also be found. In the below photo we see a pole next to the BMC Club where the Gorgie Tram Depot was once located. The history of the pole can clearly be seen with the support arm still in place and now used to hold a light, although its not clear from this view if it is still operational.

The old overhead pole is seen here. (Photograph by Kevin McGuire)
