NET 211 celebrates the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

Earlier this week we reported on the latest progress of turning Blackpool Brush 290 into a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee tram for the 2012 Blackpool Illuminations, but that will not be the first tram in the UK to receive a special livery to celebrate the occasion. On Wednesday 13th June when the Queen was visiting Nottingham, Nottingham Express Transit 211 was unveiled in a special vinyl wrap livery to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee – in the process becoming the only second generation tram in the UK to officially commemorate the occasion.

211 in its vivid bright red livery was unveiled shortly before Her Majesty arrived in the City
and was then stabled at the Royal Centre stop whilst tram services were curtailed. During this period the tram certainly turned heads with excited children being invited to look in the cab. Officials from NET also said that many people approached them to say how appropriate it was that the Diamond Jubilee was being celebrated in this way.

211 was previously in an all over advert for Tram It, a campaign by the previous concession to encourage people to travel by tram (a campaign which has now been superseded by “Glide into Nottingham”). It is expected that this vinyl wrap livery will remain in place for at least the remainder of 2012.
