Nottinghamshire Police appeal for information after chemical substance sprayed in tram driver’s face

Police have appealed for information after a chemical substance was sprayed in a tram driver’s face on 5th February 2026. As part of their appeal they have released images of four youths they wish to identify as they believe they may be able to assist with their investigation.

In the incident the victim was driving the tram back into the depot (at approximately 2000), and had announced to passengers over the tannoy that they had reached the last stop at Shipstone Street. After the tram had terminated, the driver exited their cab which is when he was sprayed in the face with a bottle of suspected corrosive cleaning fluid.

Some of the liquid went into his eye, leading to soreness and discomfort.

Police Constable Rob Garvey, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The victim is very lucky not to have been left with worse injuries to his skin and eyesight as a result of this distressing incident. Fortunately, he didn’t sustain any long-lasting injury.

“We believe the youths in this image may have information which could help us with our investigation.

“We would urge anyone who recognises any of these individuals to please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 615 of 5 February 2026.
