Car on the tracks at Northern Moor causes Metrolink delays

Another car managed to find its way onto the Metrolink tracks at Northern Moor on Friday 13th December causing the service on the Airport line to be suspended whilst it was removed. No trams were able to run between Sale Water Park and Martinscroft in either direction until the car was removed.

Update given on Trams to Newhaven construction

It is now over a month since the first stage of construction works on the Edinburgh Trams to Newhaven project started and the project team have released an update on what has been going on, showing that public relations is going to be a vital way forward especially when you consider the “issues” of the building of the initial line.

Wilkinson’s to close in Blackpool bringing tram extension closer

It has been confirmed that the Wilkinson’s store in Blackpool will close in March 2020, paving the way for work to commence on its demolition ahead of the start of work to complete the tramway extension.

NET 220 gets its new name

220, one of two trams on Nottingham Express Transit to receive a new name annually, has been named Sophie Robson – the latest winner of Nottingham’s Nurse of the Year. The tram was named at a special ceremony held at Wilkinson Street Depot.

Cyclist dies after being hit by tram in Dublin

A 19 year old man, named locally as Cormac O Braonian, chairperson of Labour Youth in the Republic of Ireland, has died after being hit by a tram in Dublin City Centre at 0300 on Sunday 15th December 2019. Mr O Braonian was riding his bike close to Charlemont tram stop when he was knocked off and despite the emergency services attending he was pronounced dead at the scene.

In Pictures: West Midlands Metro 32 in service with batteries

It was briefly mentioned in our article on the opening of the Birmingham Westside extension last week but 32 has become the 19th of the 21 Urbos3 trams to enter service with batteries fitted. It was used briefly on Wednesday 11th December but was then confined to depot for most of the rest of the week but has since started to see more regular use.

Illuminated trams to get a refresh this winter

It looks like it will be a hive of activity in the workshops at Blackpool’s Rigby Road Depot this winter/spring/summer as following quickly on from the news that Boat 230 is in for a rewire and overhaul it has been confirmed that both the Illuminated Frigate HMS Blackpool and the Western Train will also receive attention ahead of next year’s illumination season.

Reduced Tram-Train service resumes

Two services an hour have now resumed on the Stagecoach Supertram Tram-Train service between Cathedral and Rotherham Parkgate following the clearance of enough Stadler Citylink vehicles in order to operate. As you will recall the entire fleet of Citylink Tram-Trains were withdrawn from service on Friday 13th December after a fault was discovered leading to the suspension of the regular service to Parkgate.

19 back in service at Seaton

Ex-Exeter Corporation Tramways no. 19, now part of the Seaton Tramway fleet, has returned to service following the completion of its overhaul. The tram had missed the majority of the 2019 season allowing this work to take place – its biggest overhaul since entering service in 1998 but is now back out seeing almost daily use for the popular Polar Express specials.
