In Pictures: Blue route services terminating at Hillsborough

There has been further disruption for Stagecoach Supertram over the past few days with a building on Holme Lane deemed unsafe which had led to all services on the Blue route only able to run from Halfway to Hillsborough. This led to Hillsborough becoming a temporary terminus for Blue route services.

In Pictures: Another frog installed at Talbot Square

Another update from Blackpool as we see the latest update from the overhead installation at Talbot Square. This is all part of the work to construct the extension of the Blackpool Tramway from the current Promenade line at North Pier, through Talbot Square (where an outbound platform is provided) and then up Talbot Road to a new terminus which is being built on the site of the former Wilko’s store just before Blackpool North Railway Station (on a site which will also be the home of a new hotel and restaurant – all as part of the Talbot Gateway development). The last estimate for tram services to get underway was early 2021 but nothing official has been mentioned in that regard for a while.

In Pictures: Seaton Tramway in August 2021

This pictorial article takes us down to the Seaton Tramway in Devon which is now running its peak summer timetable which sees trams running every 20 minutes from Seaton to Colyton along with service extras as necessary. We see six of the trams which operate on the three mile line – and it includes everyone’s favourite tram no. 4! Keith Chadbourne is the photographer.

Metrolink 3095 changes its spots for pride month

Each year Manchester Metrolink recognises pride month by providing at least one tram in a revised livery and 2021 is no different! 3095 has seen its normal yellow spots replaced by the many different colours of the LGBT+ flag. In addition it has received a rainbow symbol on the centre of the tram with the slogan “Love Connects Everyone” on some of the windows (the only vinyls on the windows). It is expected the tram will remain like this for at least the next month.

Red line engineering works on Luas

In Pictures: Work continues in Blackpool

In this latest update from Blackpool where work to complete the extension of the tramway along Talbot Road is continuing we again take a look at the progress being made on the wiring in Talbot Square and on the junction with the current Promenade line as well as viewing the work happening on the old Wilko’s site which will contain the new terminus. Ryde Pier Tram returns to the Isle of Wight

Start typing Isle of on these pages and the next word is usually Man but not this time as we are heading south to the Isle of Wight – in the English Channel instead of the Irish Sea! – where they have just welcomed back a 1927 Ryde Pier Tram after restoration work at Alan Keef of Ross-on-Wye – no strangers to these pages having been involved in restoration work of the Volk’s Electric Railway vehicles of course – with it now on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway under test.

More integrated transport on the way for Edinburgh

There could be a revolution in integration for public transport around Edinburgh if recommendations for the reform of Edinburgh’s Transport Arm’s Length External Organisations (ALEOs) are accepted by the Council’s Transport and Environment Committee. It is said the changes would deliver a more efficient, better integrated public transport offering while retaining the identities of the much-loved transport companies.

Seaton Tramway confirmed as a Quality Assured Attraction

The Seaton Tramway has won yet another award with the tramway accredited as a Visit England Quality Assured Visitor Attraction. One of Visit England’s assessors visited Seaton Tramway in August and made the recommendation of the accreditation which has now been confirmed and adds to the awards the tramway has won over the past year or so.

In Pictures: Latest from Blackpool’s construction

We again head to the Fylde Coast in this article as we take a look at recent progress on the construction of the Blackpool Tramway extension along Talbot Road to Blackpool North Railway Station. As we’ve come to expect there are two areas of work – down at Talbot Square where overhead wiring is being installed and up at the former Wilko’s site where there is tracklaying for the final section of tramway towards the terminus.

Tram runs again at Beamish!

Its been a long-time coming but Tuesday 10th August 2021 the first tram ran at Beamish since March 2020 as the testing/commissioning process for the tramway steps up a gear. Oporto 196 was the chosen tram to run on part of the tramway line with all movements taking place before the museum opened to the public.

New timetable for the Illuminations on the Blackpool Tramway

With Blackpool’s Illuminations started to shine once more from Friday 3rd September a new timetable will be introduced on the tramway to allow resources to be more concentrated in the busier evening period. As usual on the Blackpool Tramway the new timetables will be introduced slightly ahead of the illuminations with the first operation being on Sunday 29th August.

In Pictures: Work continues in Birmingham City Centre

The progress being made on the track relaying in Birmingham City Centre has continued to be good over the past few days with the new track bed now extending further along Corporation Street towards the tramstop and onto the curve to Grand Central. Of course, this good progress doesn’t mean we are about to see trams running through the city centre again any time soon as it won’t be until October at the earliest with work needed on connecting the new Eastside extension at Lower Bull Street ahead of reopening of the current line. In this latest update we take a look at both Corporation Street and Bull Street as well as seeing initial work on the junction.

In Pictures: More track goes down in Edinburgh

In this latest construction update we again head north of the border to Edinburgh as we take a look at recent progress on the Trams to Newhaven project. We’ve recently heard that a concrete shortage is threatening to delay the project (although the official word is that this will have no impact on the final opening date) but despite that good progress is continuing to be made to the naked eye. John Hampton took a trip to Ocean Terminal for this update.
