Tramlink Nottingham confirm losses of over £20 million

In their account deposited at Companies House shortly before Christmas Tramlink Nottingham, operators of Nottingham Express Transit, have confirmed that they made a loss of £21.4 million in the 12 months to 31st March 2021. In figures which are likely to be repeated elsewhere within the UK after the significant fall in passenger numbers caused by the long-running pandemic there was a 23.4% fall in underlying operational turnover which although offset partly by the Department for Transport grants still led to a significant loss.

Merry Hill utility upgrade work to get underway in new year

Work to uncover and upgrade utilities close to Merry Hill in preparation for the constriction of the West Midlands Metro extension from Wednesbury to Brierley Hill is set to get underway early in 2022. The work will be close to the Merry Hill Shopping Centre with preliminary work on The Embankment, Brierley Hill the first to be affected from Monday 17th January 2022.

More funding to be made available for Edinburgh Trams Inquiry

Will it ever end? That’s the question being asked of the Edinburgh Trams Inquiry after it was announced that an additional £500,000 is being made available as part of the Scottish Budget brining potential costs up to £12.5 million. The far reaching inquiry – which was due to reach its conclusions quickly to help inform decisions for any future extensions was first announced in 2014 and it has now been three and a half years since the public hearings came to an end. And yet there still seems to be no signs of it ending.
