In Pictures: Tram-Train delivery to Wales

As part of the major investment in improving railway services in Wales, Transport for Wales are receiving a fleet of 36 Citylink tram-trains. These are being built by Stadler in Valencia, Spain before being delivered to the UK and after the first few arrived in South Wales by road more recent deliveries have been by rail. One such delivery took place overnight on Friday 2nd/Saturday 3rd February 2024 with 398 001 arriving as shown in this pictorial article with images courtesy of David Mee.

Wildlife Photographer of the Year returns to Seaton

The showing of photos from the Wildlife Photographer of the Year at the Seaton Tramway each year is becoming as much a tradition as the running of trams with the news that the Natural History Museum’s exhibition is to return this year between February and April 2024.

In Pictures: Trams move around after Lisbon 730’s arrival at Beamish

As we’ve reported before, Lisbon 730 arrived at its new home of Beamish on Monday 22nd January 2024 which has seen a few changes of position for trams around the depot. This has seen another Portuguese tram moved outside for temporary storage whilst 730 itself has gone into the main depot ahead of being prepared for service.

Historic building by Newhaven tramline evacuated over safety concerns

A building which contains both commercial properties and flats on Lindsay Road in Newhaven has been partially evacuated over safety concerns with questions raised as to whether the works to build the tram line caused damage. Evacuation to 12 flats and businesses below in a building dating from the 1890s happened earlier in January after structural engineers were called out to investigate.

In Pictures: Tram moves resume in the West Midlands

It has been over a month since we last saw a West Midlands Metro tram transported by road (52 arrived at Wednesbury on 22nd November followed by original T69 16 going to Dudley a couple of days later) so its obviously well overdue for another one to be on the move! Tuesday 30th January saw the first modern tram move of 2024 with 27 departing on the back of a low loader.

Edinburgh Council to decide on progressing with Granton-Bio Quarter extension

The City of Edinburgh Council’s Transport and Environment Committee are set to decide in early February on whether to proceed with the plans to extend the Edinburgh Trams network between Granton and the Bio Quarter. If the decision is taken to go-ahead with the plans there would be a public consultation this spring which would then be followed by a Strategic Business Case.

In Pictures: Artefacts of the Ryde Pier Tramway

If you think of Isle of’s and trams its probably fair to say that the first one which springs to mind is Man and not Wight! But the Isle of Wight, off the Hampshire coast, was once home to a Pier Tramway in Ryde and there remain some artefacts of the line on the island at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway which was recently visited by David Mee.

Another school holiday closure for London Trams

There will be another line closure on London Trams this February Half Term as more rail replacement works will be taking place. It is again Croydon Town Centre which will see a disrupted service as there will be no trams running between Reeves Corner and Sandilands from Saturday 10th until Friday 23rd February.

In Pictures: Latest on Dudley extension
