We return to “Stop by Stop” as we continue to take a ride on the London Trams system. Having previously featured the New Addington and Beckenham Junction/Elmers End lines we now head into central Croydon to feature the nine stops found in and around the town centre.
Last time (back in May 2025) we found ourselves at Lloyd Park and the description saw us depart that stop and go through Sandilands tunnel before passing the site of the tragic accident that saw seven people lose their lives when a tram left the rails. We also pass the junction to the Beckenham Junction/Elmers End lines before there is a road crossing of Woodbury Close immediately before the tramstop.
Sandilands tramstop is fairly standard, with platforms either side of the tracks. They contain shelters, seating, passenger next tram information displays, posters giving more details about services and of course various adverts. Ticket machines are now a thing of the past but there are validators on both platforms.
CR4000 2541 calls at Sandilands with a service to West Croydon. We are looking towards Addiscombe Road and central Croydon in this view. The standard facilities on the platforms are seen here. The bright yellow railings on the right take you down to road level, Sandilands has interchange with several local bus services.
Here we have a photo of 2562 which also calls at Sandilands. This time its heading the opposite way with a service to Elmers End, which will see the tram head to the left not long after departing the stop at the junction. (Both Photographs by Gareth Prior, 21st April 2025)
