Picture in Time: Croydon Tramlink 2534

The next few weeks of “Picture in Time” will take a look at some of the modern trams which have run in service on the Croydon/London Tramlink/London Trams network since it opened in the year 2000. We will be concentrating on trams in the original red and white livery as we feature images of the Bombardier trams.

2534 was the fifth of the fleet of CR4000 trams built for opening of the network to arrive in the UK when it arrived at the purpose built Therapia Lane Depot on 23rd November 1998. As with all 24 of the original fleet of trams it was delivered in the red and white livery (a livery which remained the corporate colours until 2008 when the trams gradually received the green, white and blue colours seen today).

In this photo we see the tram as it calls at Addington Village – which has a bus station adjacent to it allowing excellent interchange between transport modes – on its way to New Addington. The tram not only still carries the red and white livery and gold fleet numbers but also has the original roller destination blind which tells us its running on route 3.
