In Pictures: Supertram rail replacement works

Planned engineering works took place on the South Yorkshire Supertram network over the weekend of Saturday 27th June and Sunday 28th June which impacted services running on the Blue route. The focus of attention this time around was at Waterthorpe as part of the continued investment in improving the network to maintain its safety and reliability.

During the works whilst the Purple, Yellow and Tram-Train services ran as normal, the Blue route saw a revised timetable run with no trams in operation between Drake House Lane/Beighton and Halfway. Blue route trams continued to run from Malin Bridge to Drake House Lane/Beighton.

There was a bus replacement service running to help passengers get where they needed to. For operational ease this actually started at Crystal Peaks (the stop before Drake House Lane/Beighton) and called at all tramstops from there to Halfway.

On Saturday 27th June the work was taking place just beyond Waterthorpe tramstop on the road crossing with the old rails being removed and new track being laid in its place.

Normal service on the Blue route is anticipated to resume on Monday 29th June 2026.
