Manx Electric Railway Crossbench 16 returns to service

The Manx Electric Railway now have another Crossbench Car to call upon for service with no. 16 returning to service on Thursday 25th June 2026.

1898-built 16 had last run in passenger during 2024 after which it was withdrawn from service to allow a full overhaul to take place. This saw its trucks worked on whilst it has also received a repaint in the traditional red and white livery of the Manx Electric Railway.

After work was completed the tram was allowed out onto the mainline for full testing during Wednesday 24th June 2026, firstly solo and then later with the company of trailer 37.

With all going well the tram was then used for service for the first time in almost two years on Thursday 25th June 2026.

  • There was another significant event on the Manx Electric Railway on Thursday 25th June 2026 when for the first time in over 130 years of operation as a tram ran with an all-female crew for the very first time. And to make it all the more significant they were out on no. 2, one of the oldest trams in the fleet!
