The Light Rail Safety and Standards Board (LRSSB) are demonstrating their ongoing support for the sector by announcing their sponsorship of the Tram Operator of the Year category at the National Transport Awards.
The National Transport Awards are organised by the Transport Times and supported by the Department for Transport, Transport Scotland, Transport for Wales, Department for Infrastructure, Transport Focus, Intelligent Transport Systems UK and Urban Transport Group.
Following the announcement of their sponsorship of this category, LRSSB Chief Executive, Carl Williams, said: “We’re delighted to be able to back this award as we look to highlight the work being done across the sector to reduce the risk of accidents and other hazardous incidents.
“The sponsorship will also raise the profile of our own organisation as we step up the support we are providing to operators, network owners, and other key stakeholders.”
This category was won by Blackpool Transport in 2025 with previous winners being Edinburgh Trams (2024) and West Midlands Metro (2023).
Grant Poulton, Managing Director of Transport Time, said: “We are delighted to welcome LRSSB as official sponsors of the Tram Operator of the Year category at the National Transport Awards 2026.
“The awards recognise excellence and innovation across the transport sector, and it is fantastic to have the support of an organisation so committed to safety, collaboration and continuous improvement within light rail.”
The winners will be announced in a black tie ceremony at the Westminster Park Plaza in London on 1st October. It will be hosted by Rob Rinder, with Secretary of State for Transport, Heidi Alexander MP providing the keynote speech.
