Picture in Time: Manx Electric Railway 6

We move on once again for “Picture in Time” and this time we find ourselves on the Isle of Man for more images from the past. We start off in 2002 on the Manx Electric Railway.

The first tram we feature isn’t exactly one that we aren’t used to seeing in service today as we take a look at Tunnel Car 6 just coming under Ballagorry Overbridge with an unidentified trailer in tow. This image was taken on 29th July 2002.

This bridge was first built in 1901 and then rebuilt during the 1950s into the concrete structure that we see in this image. It was originally built to allow a farmer to access his land from the adjacent road.

Like all of the Tunnel Cars, 6 was built in 1894 by G.F. Milnes, Birkenhead and has been a regular performer in service for most seasons since. However, it is currently out of use undergoing an overhaul with it having last been used in 2024.
