Full list of forthcoming Metrolink engineering works: March & April 2026

As we reported earlier this month, 2026 will once again see more major improvement works taking place on Manchester Metrolink as part of a significant investment in maintaining and improving the network. A full list of currently confirmed works for the next couple of months are provided below.

Sunday 22nd March – Rochdale line

No trams will run between Victoria and Rochdale Town Centre all day

Trams will continue to run every 15 minutes:

  • Exchange Square to East Didsbury
  • Bury to Piccadilly
  • Manchester Airport to Victoria
  • Ashton-under-Lyne to Eccles via MediaCityUK
  • Etihad Campus to Altrincham
  • The Trafford Centre to Deansgate-Castlefield

A replacement bus service will run Victoria to Rochdale Town Centre.

Sunday 29th March – Victoria pre-1000 works

No trams will run through Victoria until 1000

Until this time trams will run every 15 minutes:

  • Rochdale Town Centre to Victoria
  • East Didsbury to Exchange Square
  • Bury to Victoria
  • Manchester Airport to Piccadilly
  • Ashton-under-Lyne to Eccles via MediaCityUK
  • Etihad Campus to Altrincham
  • The Trafford Centre to Deansgate-Castlefield

A replacement bus service will run Victoria to Piccadilly until 1100

Easter Weekend: Friday 3rd to Monday 6th April – Deansgate-Castlefield and Trafford Bar, and Timperley-Stretford

No trams will run on the Eccles, The Trafford Centre and Altrincham lines. Services from East Didsbury and Manchester Airport will end at Firswood. Trams from Rochdale will terminate at Exchange Square.

Trams will run every 15 minutes as follows:

  • Bury to Ashton-under-Lyne
  • Victoria to Etihad Campus (Bury to Etihad Campus as peak-time on the Saturday)
  • Rochdale Town Centre to Exchange Square
  • East Didsbury to Firswood
  • Manchester Airport to Firswood

Replacement bus services will run across the closed tram lines.

Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th April – Ashton line

No trams will operate between Piccadilly Gardens and Ashton-under-Lyne

Saturday 11th April trams will run every 15 minutes:

  • Piccadilly Gardens to Eccles via MediaCityUK
  • Bury to Altrincham (double frequency at peak times)
  • East Didsbury to Rochdale Town Centre
  • East Didsbury to Shaw and Crompton (peak time)
  • Manchester Airport to Victoria
  • The Trafford Centre to Crumpsall

Sunday 12th April trams will run every 15 minutes:

  • Piccadilly Gardens to Eccles via MediaCityUK
  • Bury to Altrincham
  • East Didsbury to Rochdale Town Centre
  • Manchester Airport to Victoria
  • The Trafford Centre to Deansgate-Castlefield

Replacement bus services will run on affected lines.

Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th April – Ashton line

No tram service between Etihad Campus and Ashton-under-Lyne. On Sunday 26th April there will be no trams running through Victoria until 1000.

Saturday 25th April trams will run every 15 minutes:

  • Bury to Piccadilly
  • Etihad Campus to Eccles via MediaCityUK
  • Etihad Campus to Altrincham
  • East Didsbury to Rochdale Town Centre
  • Manchester Airport to Victoria
  • The Trafford Centre to Deansgate-Castlefield

Sunday 26th April trams will run every 15 minutes until 1000:

  • Bury to Victoria
  • Manchester Airport to Piccadilly
  • Rochdale Town Centre to Victoria
  • East Didsbury to Exchange Square
  • Etihad Campus to Eccles via MediaCityUK
  • Etihad Campus to Altrincham
  • The Trafford Centre to Deansgate-Castlefield

From 1000:

  • Bury to Piccadilly
  • Manchester Airport to Victoria
  • Rochdale Town Centre to East Didsbury
  • Etihad Campus to Eccles via MediaCityUK
  • Etihad Campus to Altrincham
  • The Trafford Centre to Deansgate-Castlefield

Replacement bus services will run on impacted lines.

Looking further ahead and there will be a two week closure of the Rochdale line from Saturday 16th to Friday 29th May, a five day closure through Piccadilly Gardens from Monday 25th to Friday 29th May, and a nine-day closure of 1CC via Market Street from Monday 1st to Tuesday 9th June.
