Having reached the lows of 65% of trains being on time in the last four weeks of 2024, there is some better news to report on the Tyne and Wear Metro as the performance stats have improved in the first four full weeks of 2025.
Granted that improvement wasn’t hard with the end of 2024 having seen major issues with the Gateshead flyover closed and overhead issues leading to delays and cancellations, but you do need to take wins (however small) where you can.
This four week period is 5th January to 1st February 2025 and during that time 78% of trains were considered on time. On time is either within 3 minutes late or 30 seconds earlier.
That compares favourably to the previous four week (65%) and is only slightly down on the same period in 2024 – that was at 79%.
There do remain challenges with the service with the availability of trains continuing to be an issue but at least it’s a step in the right direction as we move towards hopefully better weather when reliability should improve and we can also look forward to more new trains entering service.
