Over the past few weeks we’ve featured trams being moved around the East Anglia Transport Museum as restoration projects continue to progress. We first saw Lowestoft 14 out of the main depot to allow the top deck of Glasgow 488 to be moved there for the start of work on its restoration. 14 has now been moved up to the West Depot (the new structure on the recently acquired land) as we see in our first photos of it below from Tim Major.
Lowestoft 14 has been a long-term restoration project for the East Anglia Transport Museum and it is the only truly fully intact local tram in the collection. The open topper has been regauged to run on standard gauge (Lowestoft being a 3’6” gauge tramway) and in recent years it has enjoyed more restoration work undertaken which has seen it receive a nice coat of paint and adverts between decks.
Now that it has been moved to the West Depot it will receive further attention to its paintwork. It will also need electrical work before it can be considered for an entry into service – which would be the first time it has run in preservation.
