Metrolink Special Purpose Vehicle to be sold in Sealed Bid Auction

KeolisAmey Metrolink have confirmed that the Special Purpose Vehicle, numbered 1027, which has been part of the Metrolink fleet since delivered new in 1991 is to be sold by way of a sealed bid auction. As first reported on these pages earlier in the summer following an article in the Branch Line Society magazine, the vehicle is surplus for requirements and KAM are now looking to dispose of it.

1027 will be sold in is current withdrawn condition (it was last used approximately 30 months ago) along with its wagon and spare parts. It is stored at Queens Road Depot and any interested parties will be able to visit to inspect before submitting a bid.

In the details of the auction, KAM state: “Diesel locomotive and Match Wagon which were delivered “new” to the Metrolink network in 1991. The SPV itself was new build and the match wagon was converted from a former British Rail tank wagon. The SPV is equipped with a 1-ton HIAB unit which is not currently certified but was overhauled around ten years ago and has seen little use since.

“The vehicle has been out of regular use and maintenance for around 30 months and is sold subject to the conditions of sale below. Recent maintenance records are available however no documentation other than these exists.

“Buyer to collect from Queens Road depot, Irish Town way, Cheetham Hill Road Manchester M8 0RY assistance with positioning the vehicle for collection will be provided.”

Bids should be submitted no later than 1200 on 14th October 2024.
