Supertram to trial extra peak time services

When the South Yorkshire Combined Authority took control of Supertram back in March they promised that they would be reviewing the timetable to make sure it catered for the needs of the travelling public. And now the first step towards this has been announced with a trial of extra peak time services between Monday 10th June and Friday 19th July.

A limited number of additional services will run at peak time and it will mean that a second tram will follow some of the busiest trams just three minutes behind.

In total 12 additional services are planned to run:

  • 0649 – Depot to Halfway
  • 0732 – Halfway to Shalesmoor
  • 0821 – Shalesmoor to Herdings Park
  • 0907 – Herdings Park to Cathedral
  • 1530 – Depot to Herdings Park
  • 1612 – Herdings Park to Cathedral
  • 1637 – Cathedral to Herdings Park
  • 1710 – Herdings Park to Cathedral
  • 1735 – Cathedral to Meadowhall
  • 1758 – Meadowhall to Cathedral
  • 1821 – Cathedral to Meadowhall
  • 1846 – Meadowhall to Cathedral

In the statement announcing the extra services Supertram said “this is all part of our efforts to provide our customers with an even better experience on board our trams”. Of interest in these additional services is that Herdings Park receives some extra services (normally only served once a hour) including an unusual Shalesmoor to Herdings Park service in the morning.

What they haven’t told you is the Tram/Train, which was originally every 20 minutes each way, is now every 30 minutes.

Or to be more accurate it used to be 3 unevenly spaced journeys per hour and is now two per hour at 20/40 min gaps…
That however is due to capacity and paths available on the Network Rail part of the journey and not in SYCA’s control.
