Stop by Stop London Trams: Beckenham Junction & Elmers End lines – Woodside

After our little sojourn last week where we headed back to Elmers End we’re back on our way towards central Croydon in this edition of “Stop by Stop”.

We leave Arena and carry on with a double track tramway. We’re on the alignment of the Woodside and South Croydon Railway and shortly before reaching the next stop we go under Spring Lane which includes the former railway station buildings of Woodside – although they’re not used for the tramway. Woodside tramstop is located on the site of the former railway station and has platforms either side of the tracks. With it being lower than street level access is via ramps and stairs.

2561 is just leaving Woodside here heading to Elmers End. It will soon head under Spring Lane with the building seen over the tracks being the former station building when the railway still ruled the roost here.

Then it’s the turn of the lowest numbered tram in the fleet – 2530. Its arriving at the stop as it works a service to Wimbledon. (Both Photographs by Gareth Prior, 21st September 2021)
