Today we are again heading to West Yorkshire in 1959 for another colour image of the last day’s of the Leeds system.
Horsfield Car 172 is seen here passing the Bus Station on York Street showing Corn Exchange on the destination indicator. Over 100 of these trams were introduced into service during the early 1930s named “Horsfield” cars about the then General Manager of Leeds Corporation Tramways, and sometimes referred to as “Showboats”. Although attempts to preserve a couple of additional trams in this class did not end up being successful (having to be scrapped at the Middleton Railway after severe vandalism), one does remain in the form of 180 at Crich.
