In Pictures: Midland Metro Urbos3 20 meets its public

Saturday 5th April was the first chance for members of the public to get a good look at one of the new CAF built Urbos3 trams when 20 was displayed at Birmingham Snow Hill as part of a Your Public Transport Matters event. The tram moved to Snow Hill before the start of normal services and was then opened to the public between 1000 and 1500 with officials from Centro and Midland Metro on hand to answer questions.

20 was stabled in the non-preferred platform at Snow Hill (the left hand platform in the direction of travel) and with the other platform still in normal use for the service trams this enabled photographs to be got of a Urbos3 alongside numerous T69 trams, including celebrity liveried 11 and both the original and the Network West Midlands liveries.

Five of the new trams have now been delivered to Wednesbury with further deliveries expected at regular intervals over the next few months. Testing has already commenced although this has been either restricted to the depot confines during the day or on the mainline overnight. One exception to this was when 20 was used for a filming assignment for the BBC to publicise this event.

Huge thanks to Andy Walters for these photos.

20 is joined by 11 in its Birmingham Corporation inspired livery.

07 is the next tram to feature alongside 20. This view shows the differences in the livery style between the two classes.

06, still carrying the original livery, is seen alongside 20 from the entrance end of the platform.

An even higher view. This photo shows the difference in length between the two classes of tram.

  1. Clifford Stead says:

A nice looking tram let down by the seating which looks very minimal, quite a contrast to the plusher seats in the Edinburgh trams also from CAF.
