Picture in Time: Blackpool OMO 3

Having been in 1983 for the last two weeks, this week we jump forward 12 months which unsurprisingly takes is to 1984 for more images from Blackpool in the latest “Picture in Time”.

It may be a year later but we are once again at Tower as we see OMO 3 in action and heading north although its exact destination can’t be worked out as the rear blind is set to blank. The tram has the red and white livery style carried by the class after the end of the plum and custard era and whilst the Corporation crest remains on the front of the tram on this side, the one closest to us seems to have been removed. Roof adverts for Hi-de-Hi the Holiday Musical are carried – this did the 1984 summer season in Blackpool having previously been seen in Bournemouth the year before.

3 entered service as an OMO in October 1972 and would be withdrawn in January 1987. It didn’t take long for it to be scrapped as June 1987 was the date that it was cut-up in Rigby Road Yard. The tram was originally English Electric Railcoach 224/610.
