Another edition of “Picture in Time” as we again feature the Blackpool Tramway on a snowy January 1979 day.
We’re again close to the tramstop at Ash Street on the edges of Fleetwood Town Centre as we see OMO 3 approaching with a service to Starr Gate which was part of route 7 on this day. The tram is in the second main fleet livery of the class with plum and custard replaced by red and white and its still running with a trolley. 3 would receive a pantograph less than three months later but would be scrapped in 1987 as its Centenary Car replacements started to come into service.
In 1979 the modern building on the extreme right was the town’s Post Office. Today just the building survives, with Post Office services available from WH Smith across the road, though Royal Mail still appear to use part of the premises for sorting or deliveries. On the other side of the road Swisswash may have felt quite at home in the snow.
