It seems to have been a week of good PR news stories from Manchester Metrolink as a couple with the surnames of Shaw and Crompton have got married with a tram ride thrown in from Manchester Registry Office to the reception. Julian Shaw and Jenny Crompton had contacted Metrolink to ask for permission to use a photo of Shaw & Crompton stop on their wedding invitations and things progressed from there.
Of course Shaw & Crompton stop is found on the Oldham and Rochdale line and when the couple realised it used their surnames they thought it was a chance not to be missed. But when they contacted Metrolink to use a photo bosses there decided it would be a nice touch if they offered Jenny and Julian five commemorative wedding Metrolink tickets for the couple plus their three children. A bouquet was also presented by Edith Rogers, Head of Customer Services at Metrolink, as they prepared to board the tram at St Peter’s Square with a congratulatory message played on the tannoy by Metrolink staff.
The couple have decided to join their surnames together but sadly they have gone for Crompton-Shaw so they won’t be named after a stop on Metrolink after all!
