get me there set to be rolled out across Metrolink from the summer

Greater Manchester’s answer to Oyster is set to be fully rolled out across Manchester Metrolink in the summer which will allow passengers to use a single smart card for all their journeys on any tram or bus in the area. Currently get me there is only available on Metrolink for concessionary pass holders and as a mobile ticketing app but all this will soon change.

Get me there has been available for travel on Greater Manchester’s bus network for a while but the full introduction on Metrolink will allow passengers travelling on both to now carry one smart card to complete their journey. All current Metrolink tickets will become available to be added to the smart card once full roll out is confirmed.

Tony Lloyd, Greater Manchester Mayor, said: “I want Greater Manchester to have a world class transport system and effective smart ticketing has to be a cornerstone of that ambition. While there is still work to be done, I’m pleased that passengers will soon be able to make bus and tram journeys across Greater Manchester with a single smart card. Passengers have made clear that smart ticketing should be a priority and these improvements bring us closer to delivering the integrated, world class system that Greater Manchester and the North of England expect.”

2019 will also see “contactless account-based ticketing” (i.e. when you use a bank card to touch in and touch out instead of a smart card) introduced on Metrolink.
