Manchester Airport line wins another award!

Manchester Metrolink’s Airport extension has now won a fourth national award following the receipt of the Transport Policy, Planning and Implementation accolade at The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport’s Annual Awards for Excellence.

The judges were impressed with how Metrolink had delivered one of the country’s biggest civil engineering projects both ahead of schedule and under budget. Previous awards for the line have come from the National Rail Awards, Light Rail Awards and the British Construction Industry Awards.

Cllr Andrew Fender, Chair of the TfGM Committee, said: “I am delighted that the sheer scale of what’s been achieved in delivering the Airport Line on budget and a year ahead of schedule is repeatedly being recognised by our peers in the transport industry. As well as these very welcome and deserved industry accolades, we must also recognise the beneficial impact the Airport Line is having on communities in Wythenshawe and south Manchester. It is an outstanding monument to what Greater Manchester can be trusted to deliver and how vital public transport is in linking communities with jobs, education, healthcare and leisure opportunities – all of which is driving regeneration and economic growth.”
