In Pictures: Edinburgh Trams 254 changes Uniqlo adverts

The Uniqlo squares can now be seen on three different tramways across the UK with Edinburgh Trams joining West Midlands Metro and Manchester Metrolink in having a tram carrying near identical adverts. 254 is the tram which is carrying the advert.

Of course, 254 is not actually a stranger to Uniqlo as it had been advertising the clothing store since October 2025 (following on from 273 which carried three ads for the company between March 2024 and May 2025), but has now received a new set of vinyls.

Whereas its last set were fairly plain and mainly white, this new advert is not as it features the same squares as seen on Manchester Metrolink and West Midlands Metro with it promoting the Thermal Clothing Technology Heattech. The same promotion was advertised on 273 between November 2024 and May 2025.

As we like looking for patterns and themes with adverts this is the second time in 2026 that the same advert has been seen on three different tramways (the other being Monzo in Sheffield, West Midlands and Manchester).

Another Edinburgh advert change that we didn’t report on was 267 which lost an advert for Irn Bru in favour of Scottish Rugby ads in September. This was its 15th advert since 2017.

267 is clearly no stranger to adverts but then Scottish Rugby are also no strangers to advertising on the trams. 260 (September 2024-June 2025), 261 (three designs from November 2021 until June 2024), 275 (July 2019-November 2021) and 277 (October 2025-April 2026) have all carried specific Scottish Rugby adverts whilst there have been further ads promoting rugby such as The Famous Grouse on 254 and BT on 260 and 277.

For the record the advertisers on 267 are (deep breath!): C R Smith (September 2017-June 2019), EE 5G (June-August 2019), Spotify (August-December 2019), Johnnie Walker visitor attraction (September 2021-December 2022), St James Quarter Christmas shopping and dining (December 2022-January 2023), Tennent’s Lager (January 2023-July 2023), Edinburgh International Festival (July-September 2023), Hello Fresh (September 2023-February 2024), BT (February 2024-May 2024), Johnstons of Elgin (May 2024-May 2025), Royal Highland Show (May-July 2025), Edinburgh International Festival (July-August 2025), Aegon (August 2025-July 2026), Irn Bru (July-September 2026).

267 in its Scottish Rugby advert calls at Haymarket.

Also seen at Haymarket is 273 with its Uniqlo squares. (Both Photographs by Alan Absolom, 13th October 2026)
