In Pictures: 125 breaks down at Hillsborough

South Yorkshire Supertram were unable to serve either Malin Bridge or Middlewood for a time on Wednesday 15th July 2026 following the failure of 125. Whilst the tram was repaired to be moved away from the scene all services on both the Blue and Yellow routes were turned at Middlewood.

125 was operating a service on the Blue route to Malin Bridge when it was declared a failure shortly after departing from Hillsborough, blocking both the branch up to Malin Bridge as well as the direct route along Middlewood Road to Middlewood.

Fortunately, Hillsborough does have facilities to allow trams to reverse from the Malin Bridge/Middlewood bound platform with a crossover at the city end of the stop. This did mean that services could continue to run from Halfway (Blue route) and Meadowhall (Yellow route) whilst the stricken 125 was attended to be Supertram maintenance staff.

125 is just beyond the stop at Hillsborough, clearing the platform to allow 107 to use the platform. The latter tram will be unable to go any further and will have to use the crossover to return to Halfway.

A queue of trams wait to access the platform at Hillsborough as 107 uses the crossover.

A Supertram van is on the scene with fitters on hand to try and get 125 moving again. (All Photographs by Stuart Cooke, 15th July 2026)
