Latest Stadler train enters service on Tyne and Wear Metro

35 of the new Stadler trains have now carried fare paying passengers on the Tyne and Wear Metro following the entry into service of 555 033.

555 033 entered service on Saturday 25th April 2026, just short of five months since it was delivered to northeast England. Its delivery came on 5th December 2025 when it arrived as part of a trio with 555 042 and 555 044.

It “pushes in” a bit as there are trains which were delivered in October (555 043) and November (555 024 and 555 025) which have yet to enter service.

46 of the trains have been delivered to the Tyne and Wear Metro and with 35 now having seen action a quick count up tells us there are still 11 to come! They are 555 022555 026, 555 029, 555 042555 046.

No further Metrocars have gone for scrap since 4061 earlier in April 2026. GCS Johnson who were in charge of all the moves of the units to J Denham Metls have recently gone into voluntary administration meaning a new haulage firm will need to be found before any further head off for scrap.
