Its been a quieter week of fleet changes on the Tyne and Wear Metro with none of the Metrocars departing for scrap. But that doesn’t mean there have been no changes as we have still managed to see another of the Stadler trains enter service for the first time.
555 030 is the latest to enter service, with it picking up a diagram partway through Wednesday 18th March 2026 and then being used on an all-day working the next day.
This unit was only delivered to northeast England on 14th November 2025 when it came as part of a trio of trains. The others to come in the same consist were 555 024 and 555 025 – neither of which have yet to enter service.
555 030 becomes the 33rd of the 46 trains to enter service. The only examples yet to turn a wheel in service are now 555 022–555 026, 555 029, 555 033, 555 036, and 555 042–555 046.
