The recent Mainspring European Light Rail Congress in Malaga heard from UKTram about their ambitious proposals to bridge a growing skills gap in the UK light rail sector by highlighting the rewarding career options offered by tramways.
Dan Hill, UKTram Technical Officer, attended on behalf of the organisation and updated European light rail leaders on plans to help to recruit and retain the next generation of sector professionals.
He commented: “We’re also committed to looking at ways to remove some of the perceived barriers to a career in a light rail by actively promoting equality and diversity, “encouraging women, minorities and underrepresented groups to consider careers in transportation through targeted programs and partnerships.
“At the same time, UKTram is stepping up its promotion of the benefits of working in light rail, including job security, competitive salaries and the opportunity to be at the forefront of innovation and technology driving sustainable transport.
“In the near future, we’re also planning to organise dedicated networking events and conferences where young people can meet industry leaders, learn about trends and explore job opportunities.”
