Back to Nice for another edition of “Around the World in Trams”.
We’re back in Place Massena on line 1 of Nice’s modern tram system for this photo as we see 006 in service. This tram was built in 2006 and has remained as a five section vehicle along with 11 of its sisters.
Place Massena is named after Andre Massena, a French military commander of the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars who was born in Nice in 1758. It’s the main square in the city and its layout was designed in 1843/4 by Joseph Vernier. The square is bordered by red ochre buildings of Italian architecture.
According to adverts on the trams all remaining 5 section trams are to become7 section trams by the end of March 2025.
