In Pictures: Party on ‘Princess Alice’

We recently reported on a private hire on the Blackpool tramway when ‘Princess Alice’ 706 was used as the mobile venue for a very novel birthday party on the late afternoon and evening of Saturday 6th September. We are now able to bring you a small selection of images from this private hire which saw 706 run to Fleetwood before undertaking a few shorter runs through the illuminations.

The continued popularity of the heritage trams has been highlighted by a notable increase in the number of private hires being operated in recent years, and hopefully this trend will continue as it provides an invaluable source of income to help maintain the heritage fleet. The trams have been used for a wide variety of occasions, with the party held on 706 being just one example of this.

'Princess Alice' reposes on the Pleasure Beach loop at the start of its private hire duty on September 6th.

706 stands proudly at Fleetwood Ferry in the fine evening sunshine as one of its happy passengers waves to the photographer.

As darkness fell 706 was parked on the centre line at Bispham for an hour whilst passengers enjoyed a fish and chip supper. Notice the LED balloons and other decorations tied to the upper deck. (All photos by Darren Bloxham)

Exactly the kind of leisure charter the heritage fleet is made for – I don’t know what an evening charter costs – but just brilliant!

    Well done Brian!
