New data released under a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has shown the most used stops on the Manchester Metrolink network – and its probably no surprise which stops are at the top of the charts!
The figures – which relate to the year 2024 – show that St Peter’s Square (which has four tracks and is served by trams going through the city on both routes as well as out to Altrincham, Eccles and East Didsbury) had the most passengers getting on or off trams. Almost 4.5 million passengers were recorded as using the stop.
Deansgate-Castlefield is in second place (2.1 million) with Piccadilly Gardens seeing 1.7 million passengers using it during 2024. When the last set of passenger usage figures were released in 2022, Piccadilly Gardens was more popular than Deansgate-Castlefield but that has now changed.
If you want the least used stops then you need to go onto the Manchester Airport line as the bottom three are all located there. The lowest number of passengers were recorded at Robinswood Road (23,580), and then its Crossacres (42,950) and Peel Hall (45,250).
