For the third week in a row we feature the same tram as part of “Picture in Time” but this time its looking a little bit different and its also having a spot of bother!
In 2012 Gateshead 10 received a repaint into the British Railways plain green livery which it carried after being sold to the Grimsby & Immingham Tramway following withdrawal in Gateshead. When in Grimsby it was also renumbered 26 and would continue to operate there until the line closed in 1961. The rest is history with it entering preservation and having been a stalwart of the Beamish Tramway until it was taken out of use in 2016 for an overhaul (and return to its Gateshead 10 identify). This has been ongoing and work continues in the depot with a hope that it may return to service in 2026.
In this photo – taken 5th April 2013 – we see 26 on the Beamish Tramway circuit running alongside the Events Field, or it would be running if it hadn’t had a dewirement with the trolley pole seen in mid air.
