Metrolink disruption on 1CC after panto damage

Manchester Metrolink services running on the First City Crossing via Market Street and Shudehill were suspended during the evening of Saturday 9th December after a piece of tarpaulin got caught in the pantograph of a tram at Market Street.

3061 was the tram that was involved and the tarpaulin caused serious damage to its pantograph, although the overhead line itself was not damaged. The tarpaulin became loose from scaffolding around the former Debenham’s stored adjacent to the Market Street stop.

Recovery of 3061 took place after the end of service with 3011 on the rear and 3126 on the front taking the tram back to Trafford Depot. 3039 also followed the three as it had been stranded at Shudehill by the incident. All four trams arrived back at the depot at around 0400. 3061 is now waiting for a new pantograph before it can return to service.
