In Pictures: Pharos Street tram shelter gets some TLC

The original and now unique cast iron tram shelter in Pharos Street, Fleetwood is getting some much needed TLC thanks to the Community Payback team. This shelter is situated close to the Heritage Tram pick-up stop and has looked in need of some attention for some time and this is now taking place. It has already been given a full coat of black and the casting details are now being picked out in gold paint. Once they have got an “order to work at heights” sorted out they will turn their attention to the roof before the bollards and benches in the vicinity are spruced up as well.

Work is ongoing on the shelter at Pharos Street as seen here with some of the Community Payback team. (Photos: Deckerman)

This is going to look rather smart in black and gold, and for a tram shelter it’s appropriately tram shaped! But why was the first thing I thought of on seeing the photos, a Paris “pissoir”?

I wonder if the bollard that caught 648 will be repositioned?

I remember one of these on the No 7 bus route opposite the Devonshire Arms. Mock not Patrick, this one smelled like a pissoir. I’m sure the pub had adequate lavatorial facilities, but as children, we used to stand as near to the entrance (at the end in this case rather than the side) as possible to make sure of fresh air!

Good to see the old thing restored, and there’s a posh loo just round the corner.
