Around the World in Trams: Dijon 1002

“Around the World in Trams” changes location again from today for the next few weeks and we end up in France to take a look at the modern tram system in Dijon.

The tramway in Dijon opened in September 2012 marking a return for trams in the northeastern French city for the first since the original tramway closed its last line in 1961. It features two lines running for a total of 12.4 miles (20km) with 37 stops across the network. Notably construction of the network was completed in a little over two years.

A fleet of 33 Alstom Citadis trams were ordered for the opening of the tramway. The order was joint with Brest which helped to keep costs down. The trams are of the Citadis 302 variety. All 33 remain in service today.

This photo shows 1002 in an attractive yellow and black livery which was a special livery for Le Musee des Beaux Arts in Beaune. This image was captured on 26th May 2019.
